This happened on 11 July 2024 morning when my wife had a attack. I called 911 and they responded immediately and took us to Willian Osler hospital. We reached there at about 5:15 am and after wait of 4 hours my wife finally got a place inside ER. The doctor saw her after an hour and ordered a blood work. The nurse named “Manpreet” or “Harpreet” came at about 10 am with all her arrogance and rude tone and said she is the only one at that time, so she has to hurry up and draw the blood for test. She made several piercings in my wife’s both arms to take out blood and to put on IV as she was unable to identify the nerve. We have never faced such an issue at private labs. I asked her if my wife is allowed to eat anything or how long will it take for blood work and I also for Tylenol as my was having severe headache after seizure attack. At first she didn’t answer at all back to me and when I asked again she yelled at me saying that I should have asked these question to doctor and she doesn’t know any thing about this. I requested her to give my wife at least Tylenol and she refused saying she can only give what is ordered.
That was not all for this worse day in my life when I had to deal with so many ignorant/ rude and dumb people. At about 1 pm another nurse came back and said she has to draw blood again. When I told her that it has already been done she said this one is for different test. So I asked her to show me the requisition of the blood test taken before at 10 am and how this one is different. This nurse just left from there without responding back to me. Then the nurse in-charge named Amandeep came to draw blood when I asked her why they are doing blood work again then she replied that the nurse who drew blood before had made mistake , she is new and she drew blood in wrong tube and sent to different place. So they have to do it again. I said to her that this is not fair as we are waiting from last 3 hours for blood work results and now you are telling me that there is mistake. After this nurse Amandeep got mad and started yelling at me and said ‘if we want to continue with the procedure or not?’. I have never seen such an absurd behavior as she kept screaming and told me that if we do not want to continue then we can leave. So I told her that we are okay to leave and she should remove the IV so that we can go. Here is the limit of rudeness , she didn’t even remove the IV and left that spot. I went after her to ask when she would remove the IV needle and she said when doctor will tell her to do so.
This has become never ending episode for us. I waited for some time for her to come back and remove IV needle but she never came back. I went after her to nurse station, and she totally ignored me as if I was invisible and talking to someone else. At last I decided to go out and compliant about this and so lady at reception gave me the patient concierge number – 437 231 7003. I called this number and gave all the details. Person over the phone said he will come down to ER in few minutes. This person came to me along with two security guards. As if I was the threat to them. He started explaining b.s protocols with listening to me. After all this drama, I told him if he cannot do anything then atleast ask the nurse to remove IV so that we can leave. And we finally left ER at about 3 pm. Ended up wasting my almost 10 hours, my working day, with lot of pain that my wife had to go though and all this for no results.
This is a humble request to our leaders, to our government officials for health department and the CEO of William Osler hospital from me and thousands of people like me who gets frustrated and leave without getting care that we deserve because of such a incompetent and ill behavior of your staff. We people of canada pay almost half of the portion of our hard earned money in taxes.
The major reason of high waiting in hospitals are not high population but in fact your staff most of the time either doesn’t want to work or they don’t know what they are doing.
Please do something to fix this before its too late.
