I am very disgusted at the care my mother is receiving from some night nurses at the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta. My mother is an elderly patient who fell and had to receive a reverse shoulder replacement. She has been in the hospital for almost 8 weeks and will hopefully be released in the near future. There are about 4 nurses who have displayed absolute lack of empathy, rude attitude and complete disregard of simple requests. Chantel in particular, along with 3 more nurses who’s names were not given.
My mother has fallen due to the slope in the bathroom while the nurse was standing at the bathroom door with her hands on her hips watching on. Due to issues with the toilet having to be flushed several times (unresolved plumbing issues), the nurse has refused to flush the toilet while my mother wasn’t able to, and told her to sit in it with feces.
Refused to help pull up the covers, telling her to do it herself, that she did not have the time to deal with that right now.
Yelling at several patients, which can be heard through the halls with doors closed.
I understand that nurses are over worked, however it is no excuse to treat patients with such disrespect. There is no excuse for the behaviour that some of these night time nurses have expressed, and I hope that these issues will be addressed so that other patients without a voice don’t have to endure such poor care.
Kudos to the nurses who have gone above and beyond for my mother, Mark, Jessica, Shanique, Taylor, Nicky and her helper .
All I ask is that patients be treated with respect and given the care they so deserve. They are at their most vulnerable state while in hospital and don’t deserve to be insulted and degraded due to their condition.
Thank you to all who work so hard with long hours and still continue to show patients quality care.
