This complaint relates to an experience encountered by a relative at the St Catherine’s General Hospital emergency department. My relative was admitted to this hospital for treatment, was discharged and then had to be readmitted. My concern is with the treatment provided by a nurse who advised my relative that the emergency department saw patients in the order in which they presented to the department. I am astounded that in this day and age there is not a triage system in place. My relative was in significant distress so much so that the next patient to be called advised the “nurse that my relative should take her spot. The nurse indicated that this was not OK with her as they operate on a first come first served basis. I would encourage all patients who experience poor treatment in any hospital to file a complaint either on this site or with a patient relations representative. If there is no satisfaction from the patient relations representative then there is always the CBC who is more than willing to bring issues to the attention of the public. Although Health care providers have been under tremendous pressure with Covid 19, this should not be used as an excuse for providing substandard care.
