Tonight I brought my wife to the Hospital with Diarrhea and abdominal cramps with a fair amount of pain. She is a chemo and palliative care patient at the same hospital.
We waited over 3 hours to be called in the treatment area only to discover that we were seated in the hallway with another 9 patients.
Upon discussing and complaining to the attending nurse we were told that it could be several hours before we saw a doctor. At this point we had to give it up. My wife in her present condition is very weak and a limited amount of energy thus sitting in the hallway of the hospital is inhuman. How can a modern hospital like Brampton Civic have no understanding of what chemo patients are going through and can’t do any better than providing a chair in the hallway after 3 hours of waiting in the middle of the night.
I had to take her home and hope for the best.
This is not the first time that we have received this kind treatment. They also don’t seem to understand that chemo patients have all the drugs prescribed at home therefore a situation that compels them to come to the ER is by any definition very serious. The hospital needs to do better. In the meantime I don’t know what to do. May have to transfer to another hospital.
